Canceled TV Shows Summer 2007

The latest shows yanked from the schedule.

Some deserved to be canceled, some didn't. RIP Veronica Mars

Networks are canceling old shows, underperforming shows, bad shows , and good shows (Veronica Mars, Studio 60) to make way for the new pilots...and perhaps a new way of watching television. The following is a list of canceled shows:

According to Jim (ABC): Was this show still on?

All of Us (The CW): Oh no! Will producers Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith ever find jobs again?

Battlestar Galactica (Sci Fi): Let’s hope they take a lesson from Lost, and actually wrap up some storylines.

Close to Home (CBS): Now what will David James Elliot do?

Crossing Jordan (NBC): Freeing up Jerry O’Connell too show off his comic chops in this fall’s Carpoolers.

Deadwood (HBO): Not even constant cursing can save a show.

Drive (Fox): …Right off the screen. Hey, at least it frees up Kristen Lehman to return to Prison Break.

George Lopez (ABC): Is the traditional family comedy over?

Gilmore Girls (The CW): We’ll miss you, Stars Hollow denizens.

King of Queens (CBS): Is the traditional ugly-fat-guy-has-hot-wife comedy over?

Punk’d (MTV): Now what will we watch to see celebrities embarrass themselves? Oh, wait.

Rome (HBO): Right when it was getting to the good part.

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (NBC): Proof that even Aaron Sorkin is fallible.

The Class (CBS): Is the traditional Friends-like comedy over?

The Sopranos (HBO): Technically not canceled, the producers just felt the show had run its course.

The War at Home (Fox): Is the traditional families-hate-each-other comedy over?

The Nine (ABC): Didn’t even last that many episodes.

Veronica Mars (The CW): There is still talk of a spin-off, but The CW has until June 15 to decide (when Kristen Bell’s contract is officially up).

What about Brian (ABC): A guilty pleasure show, but Barry Watson fans can visit with him on Sam I Am, premiering this fall. Sure will miss that theme song.

Not canceled yet…

Boston Legal (ABC): Despite the Emmy’s, this show has run its course. It’s time for David Kelley to step up and write another HIT. (i.e not the The Wedding Bells.)

Men In Trees (ABC): Once considered a sleeper hit, this show is MIA from ABC’s schedule.

Thank God You’re Here (NBC): Despite decent reviews and ratings, it’s nowhere to be seen on NBC’s schedule.

The Apprentice (NBC): Not officially canceled – it depends on how NBC’s spring schedule shakes out.

Not canceled at all:

Jericho (CBS): Whether one watches the show or not, it’s a victory when a network listens to the fans.

Canceled Executives:

Chris Albrecht (HBO): Following his arrest for assaulting his girlfriend, news leaked that this hadn’t been the first time he’d been accused of such behavior.

Kevin Reilly (NBC): With the firing of this executive, the tide has finally turned and a new era of television begins. Reilly was one of those old fashioned executives who believed in quality shows like The Office and Friday Night Lights. Silly silly man. He’s being replaced by Ben Silverman, (The Tudors, Ugly Betty, The Office) who is impressive himself. It’s not that this tide change is bad, because clearly Silverman has some quality taste as well, but he’s a new generation thinker. He plans to work closely with advertisers to give them more say across all television platforms.
